Bezel Setting Course (2 Hours) One-on-One
Bezel Setting Workshop
Workshop Objective:
Participants will learn how to create a bezel setting and securely set a cabochon stone into a finished piece.
Step 1 – Introduction
Welcome participants and explain the goal of the workshop.
Show examples of bezel-set jewellery.
Briefly explain what a bezel is and its purpose.
Cover safety notes: torches, sharp tools, eye protection.
Step 2 – Preparing the Bezel Strip
Measure the stone’s circumference with bezel wire.
Cut the strip to length.
File the ends flat for a neat join.
Shape the strip into a loop that fits snugly around the stone.
Step 3 – Soldering the Bezel
Demonstrate soldering the ends together.
Quench, pickle, and rinse.
File the seam smooth.
Refine the shape so the bezel fits the stone correctly.
Step 4 – Creating the Base
Solder the bezel onto a piece of sheet metal.
Saw around the bezel, leaving a small rim around the edge.
File and sand the edges smooth.
Step 5 – Preparing for Setting
Clean inside the bezel.
Test that the stone fits comfortably.
Introduce tools used for setting: bezel pusher, roller, and burnisher.
Step 6 – Setting the Stone
Place the stone into the bezel.
Demonstrate tightening the bezel walls gradually, working in opposite points (north, south, east, west).
Push the metal evenly around the stone.
Smooth the bezel edge with a burnisher for a clean finish.
Step 7 – Polishing & Finishing
