Behind The Magic
Hello everyone,
I'm Jaf! Hailing from the vibrant city of Melbourne, I'm a freshly minted jewellery designer with a deep love for all things creative. Beyond my workbench, I'm a proud mum to two little wonders, Eva and Isaac, and I’m lucky to share this journey with my amazing husband and best friend, Atheer, my biggest cheerleader as I venture into this magical world of jewellery.
My artistic journey began long before jewellery became my muse. I once dreamt of becoming a fashion designer, but alas, my sewing skills weren’t quite up to the task. So, I shifted gears and started crafting accessories, eventually launching "Banbies" in 2016, just after my daughter’s birth. For nearly seven years, I created stunning headpieces that dazzled on fashion runways, photoshoots, weddings, and special occasions. The success of "Banbies" laid the foundation for my current passion—jewellery design—where I’m now weaving my headpiece magic into wearable art.
My designs have taken on a new dimension with the introduction of lost-wax casting, a technique I’ve recently fallen in love with. This newly discovered favorite has expanded my creative horizons, allowing me to bring even more depth and detail to my work. The whimsical and magical world inspires me as a beautiful escape from the harsh realities of life. Through my pieces, I aspire to create treasures that can be passed down from generation to generation, each one carrying a bit of magic within.
As a self-proclaimed "jack of all trades," I’m still exploring the vast landscape of jewelry design. My toolbox is brimming with techniques like soldering, "keum-boo," disc forming, granulation, and, of course, the profound art of lost-wax casting. I revel in creating jewellery and objects using precious metals, mixed media, and recycled materials. My inspiration flows from emotions, blending textiles, glass, resin, acrylic, clay, recyclable discs, and paint into my creations. Gemstones, Swarovski crystals, and precious stones also find their place in my work, their colours chosen to evoke deep emotions in both maker and wearer.
Sustainability and vintage charm are close to my heart, and I love breathing new life into old pieces. Rings, in particular, hold a special place in my soul—a passion sparked by the ring my dad gave me as a child before he passed away. This love has since expanded to include earrings, necklaces, watches, and more.
With a spirited heart and an empathic soul, I pour my emotions into every piece I create. I strive for uniqueness, sophistication, and affordability, with a colourful, fun, and bold aesthetic that reflects the joy I find in this craft.
